SetUp is a project born within a company that has been alive and active for almost 40 years in the metal furniture sector, with a large production capacity, consolidated experience and cutting-edge systems: it is the most recent product of So.c.a.m. s.c.p.a. Società Cooperativa Arredi Metallici, which was born in 1986 from the ashes of a bankrupt company.
On March 24, 1986, the Court of Salerno declared the definitive bankruptcy of Calfer s.n.c., a bankruptcy that came after months of sacrifices, layoffs, dismissals, negotiations with unions and employees, all of which proved to be in vain since the level of indebtedness of the company was so high as to make the situation irrecoverable.
But a group of employees does not give up on the idea of losing their jobs, on the idea of stopping a business that, despite the difficulties, had always had numerous orders and a large customer portfolio, production has been stopped for months now but they continue to meet and discuss in search of a solution, an alternative that can unblock the situation, aware of the fact that every day of inactivity equals a loss of market, competitiveness and efficiency of high-tech machinery and systems.
The turning point comes from the idea of making use of the recently enacted Law no. 49/1985, better known as the Marcora Law, containing “Urgent measures to safeguard employment levels” and which allows cooperatives born from the divestment of existing industrial plants to obtain financing equal to three times the invested share capital.
Thus, on May 20, 1986, a group of 35 members established So.c.a.m. s.c.p.a. with a notarial deed, subscribing to shares of the share capital for an amount equal to their liquidation and a few months of redundancy pay and obtaining from the Compagnia Finanziaria Industriale di Roma the financing provided for by the Marcora law, which would be used to purchase the plants and machinery of the previous company and to rent the factory.
This is how an idea considered crazy by many becomes reality, a reality that has been alive and active for over 35 years.
The production plant extends over a surface area of over 10,000 m2 and is equipped with highly technological automatic metalworking systems as well as two painting systems, one of which is the latest generation.
So.c.a.m. s.c.p.a. operates both in Italy and abroad and the offer is mainly aimed at wholesalers and retailers reached through agents and local representatives or directly by the company, and currently employs 23 people, including 19 workers, 3 employees and 1 manager.
The activity follows the entire production cycle of metal furniture starting from the design of the same, to the purchase and storage of sheet metal coils up to the delivery of the finished product to the customers.
Within this beautiful reality, SetUp develops as an innovative idea that arises from the desire to reinvent itself, from the need to create valid and stimulating alternatives and from the urgency to give its contribution to making that idea of sustainability that is too often abstract real.
SetUp aims to contribute to bringing metal back among the noble materials capable of perfectly combining durability, design and sustainability, and takes shape by observing how, more and more often, private life and work coexist and overlap, requiring flexible and interchangeable spaces, but also pleasant to live in.
SetUp expresses beauty, harmony, proportion, because you design it, reflecting your way of being, your real needs, having the possibility and freedom to choose the colors that best suit you: it is the result of research, design and the expertise of a company that embodies a history of determination, passion for its profession, and a history of manufacturing excellence with a strong “made in Italy” imprint.
